Congratulations mankind! We have the least number of people dying due to starvation at present and is predicted to plummet in the long-run too. As soon as you start feeling happy about this fact, let me tell you a far more alarming fact, "The rate of deaths caused by Obesity is highest at the moment and are not predicted to be plummeting but to be surging in the near future".
" We got lost in the war against one enemy and were so blinded by our victory against that enemy, we didn't see the modern enemy's army taking lives of our own kind."
So what are the 3 F's I was talking about?
Let's just go back in time for a few minutes and try to remember the busiest, buzzing streets in your place. And now compare those pictures with the current scenario.
Did you observe the two fitness centers built on the top floor of a congested building?
The countless fast-food chains/centers that were considered luxury items earlier, the innumerable boutiques, textile shops, all these fancy stores, which didn't exist until recently sprang in every tiny corner of the street.
FOOD
The way people perceive food has changed a lot. Once upon a time, it was a basic need to fight hunger. Later, it became a wealth to be stored in surplus and now it is something you have to enjoy, to overcome depression, for the sake of its taste, to avoid boredom, to impress others by making it. And don't even get me started on people going to fancy places just for looking cool on social media platforms. People are going to both zenith and nadir in this section. Some people are craving new tastes, new cuisines and are falling prey to Obesity while on the contrary, some are eating only healthy food even though it isn't tasty and that too in very restricted amounts. And the people who eat like normal beings are getting mocked for both, not eating healthy and for not enjoying the different varieties. These normal consumers get submissive due to peer pressure and start experimenting and find themselves in any one of the two coffins.
FITNESS & FASHION.
With all the yummy, high-calorie foods inside their bodies, people start gaining weight and eventually end up with......Wait for it..... A Gym membership. They start working out, for a good cause obviously and the peer pressure catches up but for different reasons now. From eating junk to eating only low carb high protein healthy foods, they turn into the opposite version of themselves.
The reason for clubbing both Fashion and Fitness is the fact that they both are the results of a person's desire of 'Looking Good'. Some people say that they are going to the gym to be fit. And most of them are lying. I stand with this point because I have seen many people buying branded gym clothes, shoes, accessories, etc just for the sake of looking good in a place where they work hard for the fucking same reason. "It is as dumb as applying makeup before going for plastic surgery".
I'm not against being healthy but if someone is in this cycle just out of peer-pressure, listen to me, We only have one life, so stop trying to alter the external appearances and start worrying about what is inside. Do those things that your soul urges for. Tick off those bucket lists, just do and get over the things that scare you.
Don't let the peer-pressure perturb your inner peace.
The most peaceful and healthy people in the world: 'The Sages of Sivanna', who live beyond 100 years with the health of a normal person in his 20's workout only 5 hours out of 168 hours in a week.
The workout doesn't include bench press or pullups, just any exercise that moves their body. It's that simple.
What happened to the kid inside us?
Who used to eat anything he wanted, never sat at a place, always wanted to explore new things, and never cared about other's ideas of ' Ideal way to live', what happened to him/her?
Bring the kid out and you would not have to worry about anything and yet everything will be fine.
What does that tell you?
We all will die of illness one day.
